Langkampfen, 8 April 2026
Since March 2026, the Langkampfen-based garden equipment manufacturer has expanded its in-house production with a new tube laser cutting system, further strengthening the site’s technological capabilities.
With an investment of around two million euros, STIHL Tirol is reinforcing the long-term competitiveness of the site. The new system reduces set-up times and spare parts costs, enables new design possibilities for prototype parts and development, and paves the way for all tubes for long-reach tools to be processed on this modern production line in the future. In addition, a covered unloading area for trucks with an integrated crane ensures safe and weather-independent material handling and includes storage space for tubes up to 12 metres long. Together, these measures complete the site’s modern, future-ready production environment.
STIHL Tirol Managing Director Ralph Schmid emphasises: “The clear focus of this investment is to secure our long-term competitiveness. Expanding our in-house production is a crucial lever, as it gives us greater technological independence, flexibility and speed. These capabilities are exactly what a modern production site requires today. This forward-looking project represents a significant technological advance, particularly in today’s challenging global environment.”
The high-tech system is used to manufacture tubes for long-reach tools such as cordless hedge trimmers, cordless pole pruners and cordless olive harvesters, with additional applications already in development. The new technology takes tube processing to a new level: it operates faster, more quietly and with high precision, enabling completely tool-free, flexibly programmable production based on 3D data for the first time.
A key advantage is the significantly simplified modification of geometries. Previously, changes to openings, contours or recesses required time-consuming and costly tool changes. Now, adjustments are made directly in the 3D data. The laser system implements new geometries digitally – without retooling, with minimal set-up effort and with maximum flexibility.
A highly automated three-robot system, developed by an in-house team for special-purpose machinery at STIHL headquarters in Germany, is integrated directly alongside the laser system and handles further processing of the various tube types. At the end of this process, the tubes are sorted into the appropriate containers for internal logistics, ready for further production.
