Langkampfen, 20 September 2018
STIHL Tirol, the gardening power tool manufacturer from Langkampfen, is continuing its sponsoring partnership with SOS Children's Villages under its new name. The cooperation between VIKING, what STIHL Tirol was called until recently, and SOS Children's Villages began in 2005. Numerous campaigns have been undertaken since then. This year, the decision was made to support a special project in East Africa.
This year's donation is destined for Uganda, where the most recent SOS Children's Village was also established. Unfortunately, girls in Uganda are severely disadvantaged when it comes to education. "Their purpose is to marry", is often the credo. This all too often results in teenage pregnancies and child marriages. This is where SOS Children's Villages steps in, equipping girls from particularly poor families with school uniforms and financing school bags, books, exercise books and expenses that are not covered by the state. This helps in two ways: while the children go to school, the parents can work to improve their life situation in order to be able to keep their family again themselves after a certain time. This capacity building is the aim of the family strengthening programme.
With its € 5,000 donation, STIHL Tirol helps 2,500 girls in Uganda to go to school. STIHL Tirol Marketing and Sales Manager Wolfgang Simmer recently presented Michaela Schalk from SOS Children's Villages with a symbolic cheque.
