Economic sustainability

Securing sustainable success

As a global player, STIHL is also pursuing sustainable corporate success. Steady organic growth makes it possible for us to strengthen our competitive position, manage crises, and create secure jobs. Our guiding principles for economic sustainability are outlined in the STIHL sustainability policy.

Sustainable governance

STIHL is a family-owned medium-sized enterprise. The owning family has explicitly set the objective that STIHL should continue to be a company run by the descendants of company founder Andreas Stihl. The company’s operations have been directed by a non-family-controlled Executive Board since 2002. Continuity of ethos and actions is foundational to the company’s success. STIHL focuses on its core competences: Development, production and distribution of chainsaws and power tools.

Independence

STIHL attaches great importance to independence. STIHL Holding AG & Co. KG and all affiliated manufacturing companies and subsidiaries are not listed on the stock exchange, but are 100% family-owned. With an equity ratio of more than 70%, we are largely independent of banks and capital markets and can generally finance investments from our own funds. This makes it possible for us to implement long-term strategies even in challenging capital markets, or when the business climate and general economic conditions are difficult. In order to be able to guarantee long-term independence and reliable planning, we are particularly focused on vertical integration, organic growth, and the expansion of expertise.

STIHL Tirol social certificate programme

Sustainable social engagement

STIHL Tirol trainees take part in various social projects throughout their apprenticeship as part of the youngCaritas social certificate programme. This practice-oriented initiative helps apprentices and trainees strengthen their social skills while broadening their experience. The programme is tailored to the needs of the participants and is designed to foster empathy, teamwork and self-confidence. Participants are also encouraged to reflect on socio-political issues and confront their personal prejudices, making this a well-rounded professional qualification.
