Langkampfen, 13 August 2019
In recent weeks, the garden equipment manufacturer STIHL Tirol, based in Langkampfen, has reinforced its commitment to SOS Children's Villages with an Austria-wide campaign. This marks the start of the 18th uninterrupted year of this beneficial sponsor partnership.
Due to the current demand for gardening tools, STIHL agreed to provide support this year in the fitting form of STIHL tools from Tyrol. In the SOS Children's Villages, it is not only the children and adolescents who require care, there are also green spaces and gardens that need to be looked after. The procurement of lawn mowers, ride-on mowers, hedge trimmers and other gardening tools is, therefore, often a priority. In addition to STIHL Tirol, the Austrian STIHL distribution company based in Vösendorf has also been involved in this nationwide campaign and together, they have helped numerous STIHL tools change hands across Austria.
A regional sponsorship campaign was also carried out recently in the home town of STIHL Tirol. UNOS 93, an association for culture and community from Langkampfen, set itself the task – in collaboration with pupils from all of the schools in Langkampfen – of fighting "Impatiens glandulifera" or "Himalayan balsam" within the community, as this plant impedes and inhibits the growth of many other plants. Biologist Nicole Schreyer gave a lecture before the occasion to provide information about the event. Well-equipped with work gloves, caps and a hearty snack sponsored by STIHL Tirol, about 300 kids and teenagers walked through all of the districts within the community and plucked out several tons of the pest plant from all over Langkampfen with the help of numerous volunteers.
All of those involved were eager to help and, as a result, this meaningful environmental project was a great success. The event really got down to the root of it, in the truest sense of the word, and there is hope that the project will be continued in subsequent years.
