Langkampfen, 29 April 2021
On 29 April 2021, the garden equipment manufacturer STIHL Tirol marked the official start of construction of a plastics manufacturing facility at its site in Langkampfen with a symbolic ground-breaking ceremony. After moving to Langkampfen from its original location in Kufstein in 2001, the STIHL Group is now embarking on its next stage of expansion following successful construction projects in 2007, 2012 and 2019. As Martin Schwarz, the executive board member for manufacturing and materials, emphasises: "STIHL Tirol has been part of our corporate group for nearly 30 years. Today's ground-breaking ceremony underlines the importance of the location in our international network of manufacturing facilities. We do not expect this positive development in Langkampfen to come to an end any time soon. Instead, we are confident that our gardening and battery-powered products will continue to successfully establish themselves in the market in the future."
The company's plastics manufacturing facility is being constructed on a newly developed site covering an area of 3,500 m². The new facility will initially contain ten injection moulding machines and space for new assembly lines in the future. The total investment volume is around 19 million euros. The company decided to go ahead with the expansion after experiencing positive and stable growth over the past few years and determining that its future also continues to look bright.
With this new development, STIHL Tirol is also strongly committed to intensifying its in-house manufacturing activities. The company's managing director, Clemens Schaller, is delighted with the new construction: "This step represents a strategically important milestone for our location. Expanding our manufacturing facilities enables us to ensure that a significant number of our parts are produced directly on site. This not only saves costs but is also sustainable and supports STIHL's climate strategy. What's more, it significantly reduces our logistics costs and the need for the transportation of parts to our factory via road."
By constructing the new plastics manufacturing facility, the company is creating new jobs for 50 additional employees at its location in Tyrol. The construction of the extension is expected to be finished as early as summer 2022. This new building yet again underlines the strong commitment of the STIHL Group and its Tyrolean subsidiary to the location in Tyrol.
