Langkampfen, 21 May 2026
Despite challenging market conditions, STIHL Tirol increased revenue by 16 percent in 2025 compared with 2024. Factors such as tariff policies in the large US market, widespread consumer restraint due to the weak economy and unfavourable exchange rate developments continued to impact the business environment. The positive development was driven in part by one-off factors and the successful launch of new products. Demand for battery-powered lawn mowers, blowers, long-reach hedge trimmers and compressors was particularly strong. At the end of 2025, employees numbered 902 compared with 927 in 2024.
At the beginning of 2026, Ralph Schmid took over as Managing Director of STIHL Tirol. Building on the successful work of Richard Felix over the past year, Schmid nevertheless cautions against excessive optimism based solely on the positive figures for 2025. “The economic environment remains highly challenging. Like many industrial companies, STIHL Tirol is affected by changes in global markets and the impact of international crises”, says Schmid. He remains firmly focused on the future: “After many years of growth at STIHL Tirol, the priority is now the strategic further development of the site. We are therefore pursuing a path of consolidation. Through clear and forward-looking decisions, we are ensuring that STIHL Tirol remains a strong part of the STIHL Group for years to come.”
STIHL Tirol is currently undergoing a comprehensive transformation process that will shape and further develop the site over the coming years. This includes the targeted reorganisation of the product portfolio within the STIHL Group, which celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. Within the international manufacturing network of the STIHL Group, products are strategically allocated across production sites in eight countries worldwide. The core competencies at STIHL Tirol will remain ground-based garden tools such as lawn mowers and garden shredders, as well as shaft-mounted tools such as cordless brushcutters and cordless pole pruners.
New ideas and a clear vision for the future
STIHL Tirol is making strategic investments in future technologies to secure the long-term competitiveness of the site. The company continuously evaluates which areas would benefit from increased in-house production. This is a crucial strategic lever that enables STIHL Tirol to improve technological independence, flexibility and speed, thus strengthening the capabilities required of a modern production site today.
One current example is the new tube laser cutting system that STIHL Tirol is using to take tube processing to a new technological level. Since March 2026, the high-tech system has been producing tubes for shaft-mounted and long-reach tools. The fully automated system enables high precision and low-noise processing and is complemented by advanced robotics and automated packaging technology. The system reduces set-up times and spare parts costs, enables new design possibilities for prototype parts and development projects, and paves the way for all tubes for shaft-mounted tools to be processed on this production line in the future. For STIHL Tirol, this marks another important step towards modern, efficient and increasingly automated manufacturing.
At the same time, STIHL Tirol is opening up additional business opportunities by making its expertise and high-quality infrastructure available to external industrial partners within the region. In the future, the company’s facilities, technical capabilities and services will also be available for third-party projects, for example in the areas of measurement technology, testing and development. The aim is to make state-of-the-art infrastructure, such as sound measurement and electromagnetic compatibility testing facilities, available to external partners while simultaneously strengthening the local industrial network. Initial discussions with interested companies have already highlighted the strong potential of this new business area.
Partnerships drive the site forward
STIHL Tirol also continues to work closely with educational and research institutions in the region. Long-standing partnerships with the MCI Entrepreneurial School® and Kufstein University of Applied Sciences will be continued, as they make an important contribution to the innovative strength and competitiveness of the site.
As part of the collaboration with the Center for Production, Robotics & Automation at the MCI Entrepreneurial School®, more than 20 innovation projects are being implemented in the fields of production automation and digitalisation. Key focus areas include automated manufacturing processes, innovative assembly concepts and AI-supported knowledge management in maintenance. Technical solution concepts and functional prototypes developed through the partnership have already led to the implementation of innovative processes and systems.
In collaboration with Kufstein University of Applied Sciences, STIHL Tirol developed a continuing education programme aimed specifically at managers in logistics and production. The partnership has also provided valuable momentum in the area of employee training. Students from the Master’s programme in ERP Systems & Business Process Management developed a comprehensive training concept for STIHL Tirol with the goal of creating practical approaches for preparing employees efficiently and effectively for complex tasks. To achieve this, manufacturing processes and related documentation were analysed in detail, key competencies were identified, and the use of visualisations, video-based training and artificial intelligence was evaluated. Based on these findings, standardised layouts and processes for the continued development and standardisation of employee training were created.
Proven product quality
Independent tests regularly confirm the high quality standards of STIHL products manufactured in Tyrol. In 2025, the STIHL RMA 239 C cordless lawn mower was named best in test by the German consumer testing organisation Stiftung Warentest. The model particularly impressed with its area coverage of 590 square metres per battery charge and its safety, both of which received a “very good” rating. Ease of use, cutting performance and reliable filling of the grass catcher box were also highlighted as key strengths. Further top reviews underline the strong position STIHL holds in the premium segment: In June 2025, the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.) praised the STIHL RM 448 PC petrol lawn mower, in particular for its cutting performance and ease of operation. At the same time, the RT 5112 Z and RT 6112 ZL lawn tractors received excellent ratings in the “F.A.Z. Kaufkompass” buyer’s guide.
Commitment drives progress
The high quality of STIHL Tirol products is made possible not least by the dedication of its employees, whose ideas and commitment drive the site forward every day. As part of the moderated “World Café” exchange initiative for foremen, participants contributed numerous constructive ideas aimed at optimising collaboration. The open dialogue fostered valuable cross-departmental exchange between production and logistics teams and generated practical suggestions for improving cross-functional collaboration and addressing shared challenges more effectively.
In 2025, all other employees were also once again invited to contribute ideas for making the site more innovative and efficient. With around 1,000 submissions, a new record was set. The high level of participation demonstrates how deeply continuous development and active involvement are anchored in the company culture at STIHL Tirol. Employee suggestions continue to generate new solutions that simplify day-to-day work, improve processes and strengthen the site over the long term. This shared drive for continuous improvement remains a key success factor, especially in challenging times. The outstanding commitment and performance demonstrated by the entire workforce were once again recognised this year with a bonus as a token of appreciation. This underlines the company's strong focus on dedication, reliability and team spirit.
STIHL Tirol also launched numerous initiatives in 2025 aimed at promoting employee well-being, exchange and team cohesion. Programmes such as the “Female Empowerment” lecture evening, a self-defence course for women, sports classes and mental health seminars provided valuable impetus for fostering a healthy and appreciative working environment. Shared activities including the annual summer party at Kufstein Fortress, a ski trip to Sölden and various employee communities, from hiking groups to after-work football, further strengthened the sense of community at the Langkampfen site.
